If your kids love chicken tenders but you’re tired of reaching for the frozen bag every time, these air fryer chicken tenders are the homemade version you’ve been looking for. Crispy, juicy, and much better than anything from a packet.

My kids would happily eat these air fryer chicken tenders at every meal. A yogurt and dill marinade keeps the chicken tender and juicy, while a parmesan-sesame panko coating crisps up in the air fryer so well you’d never guess they weren’t deep-fried.
Don’t skip the dill dip — it takes just a couple of minutes to make and lifts the whole dish. Along with recipes like the chicken katsu bowl and air fryer chicken tikka, these tenders have kept our air fryer busy.

Ingredients for Chicken Tenders
- Chicken Breast: Cut into 4-inch-long, 1-inch-wide strips. One large breast yields about 6–7 strips.
- Marinade: Whisked yogurt, egg, grated garlic, dill leaves, Italian seasoning, honey, salt, and crushed pepper.
- Coating: Panko breadcrumbs, grated parmesan, and black and white sesame seeds.
- Dill Dip: Whisked yogurt, grated garlic, honey, dill, mint, lemon juice, olive oil, milk, and salt.
- Oil: Groundnut or any neutral cooking oil for spraying before air frying.
Frequently Asked Questions
Chicken tenders are long, thin strips cut from the breast. They cook quickly, stay juicy, and are ideal for coating and frying because of their even shape. Kids love them, and adults do too.
About 7–8 minutes total at 200°C. Air fry 4 minutes on one side, flip, spray lightly with oil, then cook another 3–4 minutes until golden and crisp.
Yes, but thigh strips are softer and may not hold their shape as neatly. Breast gives uniform strips that cook evenly and keep the coating intact.
Richa’s Top Tips
- Marinate at least 3–4 hours. The yogurt and dill need time to tenderize and flavor the meat; the difference is noticeable.
- Spray oil on the breadcrumb mix before coating. A light spray helps the panko turn golden and crisp in the air fryer instead of staying pale.
- Don’t overcrowd the air fryer basket. Leave space between strips so hot air circulates and the coating crisps evenly.
- Flip once and spray again halfway through. Flip at about 4 minutes, spray lightly, and finish cooking to ensure both sides are evenly golden.
Storage Tips
- Refrigerator: Store cooked tenders and dill dip separately in airtight containers for up to 2 days to prevent sogginess.
- Freezing: Freeze marinated, uncooked strips (without the coating) for up to two weeks. Thaw in the fridge overnight, coat in panko, and air fry fresh. Cooked tenders lose crunch when frozen.
- Reheating: Reheat leftovers in the air fryer at 180°C for 3–4 minutes to crisp them up. Avoid microwaving, which softens the coating.
Serving Ideas
These chicken tenders are perfect as a snack with dill dip or as part of a larger meal. Try them with:
- French fries: A classic pairing — homemade tenders and fries make a satisfying meal.
- Air fryer sweet potato fries: A lighter, crispy side cooked right alongside the tenders.
- Asian slaw: A crunchy, tangy slaw balances the richness of the coating and pairs well with the dill dip.
- As a wrap: Slice the tenders and tuck them into a warm tortilla with slaw and a generous drizzle of dill dip.
